The SLED Security Officer training (now called SAFEGUARDSC training) is divided into three separate training courses: Primary Basic, Primary Plus and Firearms curriculum. There is a 100 question written exam for each Primary Basic and Primary Plus that you must achive 80% or better in order to pass the course. Should a student fail, they can retest after additional training, however should a student fail 3x or more per state regulations they will not be permitted to be registered as a security officer in South Carolina.
PRIMARY BASIC
Primary Basic is the fundamental unarmed course
This class will introduce you to the basic knowlege needed for all security officers working in South Carolina. The class is required of all security officers working in South Carolina, before they can take any other classes or apply for unarmed license.

PRIMARY PLUS
Primary Plus prepares the student to become Security Officer with arrest authority and a required course for all officers who will be armed with any type of weapon.
Primary Basic is the mandatory prerequisite before you can take Primary Plus.

ARMED SECURITY - FIREARMS TRAINING
Primary Basic and Primary Plus are mandatory prerequisite before you can take the Firearms Course.
This class provides the student with the required Classroom, Firearm, and Range instruction to become a SLED Certified Armed Security Officer. If you are a new shooter please contact us before registering for this class it is not a class for new shooters, you will need to take additional firearms training with our instructor at additional cost prior to attending this class.
NOTE: We reserve the right to deny or discontinue firearms traing fo anyone who we determine might be unsafe handling firearms.

In addition to the classroom portions of the program, you must also attend in-person training at a gun range. Your instructor will discuss and demonstrate each of the six stages that are part of the Firearms Qualification exam. In order to pass the live fire exam and receive your credentials, you must complete each of the stages and obtain an overall 80% score (40 “hits” out of 50 shots on the silhouette portion of the target).
Student must supply the firearm they are going to carry on the job, no exceptions.
Students will need a mimimum of 100 rounds of full metal jacket, brass ammo for the class or purchase it at the range. You will shoot 50 practice rounds then on a new target 50 qualification rounds.
Pants, sleeved shirt, closed toe shoes, belt, duty belt, security holster, extra magazines and magazine pouches are required for the class.
Course fee does not include range fees, the student will be required to pay those directly to the range.
Below are the minimum requirements to become an Armed Security Officer in South Carolina
-You must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
-Must be a United States citizen
-No physical or mental impairment which would prevent you from competently performing the
-Has the ability to successfully pass a criminal background inquiry
-No drug or alcohol use or dependence
-Has not been discharged from the military service with other than honorable conditions
-Has not been revoked or suspended by SLED for armed certification
-Previous experience with firearms is strongly preferred
ANNUAL RECERTIFICATION CLASS
In accordance with SLED Regulatory guidance, all security officers, unarmed and armed, must attend an annual recertification class. During the initial part of the recertification (in-service), the Training Officer will be provided with updated information that was received from SLED during the yearly Training Officer recertification. The second part of the recertification will consist of firearm recertification for security officers that are armed. Security Officers must qualify with the firearm they will carry while on duty and all the same inforamtion and rules about the firearms class are listed above.
The instructor will provide the student with the original of his/her recertification training documents. The student, or their company representative, will be responsible for submitting all required documents to SLED. The instructor will maintain a copy in the appropriate training file, and ensure that a copy of the student training documents is provided to the company representative.
FIREARM RECERTIFICATION:
All security officers are still required to achieve an 80% on their firearm recertification. If the officer fails to obtain an 80% on his/her firearm qualification, they will have one more opportunity to take the qualification. If they fail the second qualification, they will not be allowed to be registered as an armed officer.
Identity Verification Policies for all SLED classes.
Students must have a current state issued photo ID.
Students must provide your full legal name: last, first, and middle.
Students must provide the address where you currently live, including street name and number apartment number (if applicable), City, State, and Zip Code.
Safety Polices:
No alcoholic beverages are permitted at the Firearms/Training, no person shall come to class under the influance of any alchol or drugs.
Persons impaired to any degree by alcohol or any other substance will not carry, handle, or fire any firearm and will be dismissed from class without a refund.
The Range Safety Officer or any Firearms Instructor will take the firearm(s) from any suspected impaired person and secure it. The incident will be immediately reported to the SLED Training Unit Supervisor.
Persons believed, by the Range Safety Officer or a Firearms Instructor, to be ill or mentally distracted to the point of being a safety concern or a disruption to on-going training will be instructed to leave the facility.
Any person ordered to leave the facility by the Range Safety Officer, or any Firearms Instructor shall leave immediately.
Live ammo will not be brought into the classroom for any reason.
Refund / Cancellation Policies:
No refunds will be issued, any student who is more than 5 minutes late to class will not be permitted in the class and will not be issued a refund.

Adult First Aid, CPR & AED
This combination CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid training is for individuals who are not healthcare providers or professional rescuers but desire or are required to be certified in basic first aid CPR and the use of an AED. The program will develop basic first aid knowledge, skills and the confidence to respond. This combination training is an excellent choice for both the community and workplace setting, and conforms to the 2020 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR, ECC, and First Aid.
Certification will be issued after completion of course and passing the skills exams and will be valid for a two-year period.

This class runs 6-8 hours long, and is limited to 6 students.
Bloodborne Pathogens
The Bloodborne Pathogens training program includes information that will help students understand what bloodborne pathogens are and how risks of exposure can be reduced for themselves and others. This bloodborne pathogens certification course assists in satisfying the training requirements of the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030).
HSI’s Bloodborne Pathogens course is ideal for any individual or employee who has a reasonable anticipation of contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials as a result of performing designated job duties such as first aid responders, security officers and more.
Certification will be issued after completion of course and passing the knowlege exam and will be valid for a one-year period.

This class runs 1-2 hours long.
